The hotel is centrally located near the grote markt in Mechelen, convenient for exploring this very attractive, historic market-town and for visiting its large selection of good bars and restaurants. Mechelen is a good place to explore and enjoy, stopping for a cup of coffee in a cobbled market square by the river, looking at its 17th century (and older) buildings or window-shopping outside its chocolatiers and patisseries! The railway station (15 minutes walk from the hotel) takes you to Ghent, Antwerp or Brussels and beyond. The hotel serves a good breakfast and offers comfortable, simple, spacious accommodation. The staff are helpful, hospitable and professional.

We booked huge and reasonably large a twin room with a huge bathroom and could use wake-up service, available in it. The management was very pleasant and excellent, as well as the staff.
Some of the staff were very unhelpful.

We were staying in the hotel only on weekend. Everything was ok. But near the door of hotel is big reconstruction. I think it can be noisy during the week. The view from the window is spoiled.

The shower, resupply of water bottles each day
Very slow internet (weak signal on the 2nd floor), no Iron for ironing clothes (was also not supplied by my request)

The room at Den Grooten Wolsack Hotel was cozy and comfortable, with a nice desk for working on my laptop and a flat-screen TV for relaxing. The private bathroom was well-equipped with a rainfall showerhead and complimentary toiletries. The bed linen and towels were clean and fresh. I felt right at home in my room.
Personally, I would have preferred a bathtub instead of just a shower, but that's just my preference. I understand that others may still find the shower enjoyable.

We enjoyed walking out of the hotel and within minutes, we were in the main market surrounded by cafes, churches and shops, emanating a great atmosphere.
The church bells next door rang on the hour, it would have been great if they stopped at 11pm and started at 7am.

Clean and very well located Hotel with acceptable breakfast. Close to many resturants and The Big market and shopping area, if the Hotel restaurant is not used
Shower cabin is a little small but worked well once the old fashioned mixer got adjusted. An automatic mixer should however be expected in a modern hotel. There was no Air conditioning, and the 24 inch lcd television of the first generation not the best picture but ok it works.
